FAQ's

Why choose soy wax?

All of our candles are made with premium 100% natural plant based soy wax, specifically formulated for candles. Some of the many advantages of using soy wax are - it is non-toxic and far better for the environment, biodegradable, pesticide and herbicide free, water soluble, burns cleaner producing little soot, slower burning with a higher scent throw and is not tested on animals.

What wicks do we use?

Our cotton wicks are textile-grade and are developed to work best in natural waxes, especially soy wax. These wicks tend to burn cleanly and can be less prone to mushrooming. They are all natural and are zinc and lead free.

How do I care for my candle?

There are safety recommendations on the base of all of our candles - it is important to read through these before burning your candle for the first time. When lighting your soy candle for the first time, allow the wax to melt all the way to the sides of the jar. This will ensure a consistent burn each time and will avoid any tunneling of the wax.

We recommend to always trim your wick to 5mm in length. This can be done by simply pinching off any black used wick and lighting the fresh wick underneath. Extinguish your candle once the wax is 10mm from the base. This can be dangerous as with very little wax the heat can become too much for the jar and cause cracking.

Always burn on a heat-resistant, flat surface away from drafts, pets and anything flammable and never leave your burning candle unattended.

*Always remove any dried florals before lighting your candle*

Can I re-use my candle vessel?

Absolutely! Once you have finished burning your soy candle, the leftover wax can be washed out with warm soapy water and the jar can be re-used. They can be used to store everyday items or as a vase for flowers. Or if you live locally in Kerikeri I am happy to re-fill the jars at a discounted rate. I am currently working on a way to create pop-in refills so watch this space!
